4.7 National Archives & Records Administration - The Genealogy Page
The NARA has set up this site to help individuals find guides, aids, and research tools that will assist them in their genealogical research. This is not so much a search engine, but rather a resource with its handy guides, directions on using NARA records and lists of courses and workshops. The Genealogy Page is geared more towards those who have a familiarity with genealogical research.

If you’d rather do research from the comfort of your own home than in a cemetery, this is the site you need to see. Reference guides offer specialized searches by country, ethnicity, religion and state. You can even check passenger lists from ships. The reference desk offers forms, charts maps and how-to articles for all levels of genealogy enthusiasts. If you’re interested in learning more about genealogy then you need to stop at the “spot” that has the info!

4.1 Family Search - Internet Genealogy Search
One of the largest sources of genealogical data and research has been put online. This site conducts searches through Ancestral File (one of the world's largest collections of pedigrees and family group records with over 35 million records), International Genealogical Index (the world's largest collection of birth, christening, and marriage information with over 300 million records), Pedigree Resource File (a search repository of pedigrees compiled from submissions to the Family Search Internet Genealogy Service) and other genealogical resources. One of the best places to conduct your ancestral search.

This site is a must bookmark for genealogy enthusiasts. Search over five million pages of historic newspapers online in the comfort of your own home. Once you find the paper you need, you can view it using Adobe’s PDF format. Simply type in the name you are researching and the computer will find it and the newspaper article it’s in. This site does charge for it’s information.

One of the world's largest collections of family history data online. Ancestry.com not only offers search assistance but message boards, software and books as well. Membership to Ancestry.com does come with an annual price tag of at least $59.95. There are however some features that are free.

— This site is an incredible genealogical resource that is non-commercial and completely free. If you’ve hit a brick wall in your genealogy and can’t seem to find the right information come here and use their vast amounts of information and well thought out links to help you. It even includes help for those just starting out in genealogy. A site run entirely by volunteers, USGenWeb is a great place to start searching for your family’s roots.

This completely free site offers links to eight separate search engines to help you through your family research. You can search for names and personal websites, historical sites, primary records and more. A searchable database of county, state and national archives is available as is a link to sites offering genealogy software.

Would you like to join others who have a passion for genealogy? The National Genealogical Society strives to assist members in tracing family histories and has done so since being founded in 1903. This organization now serves over 17,000 members. Membership packages vary and the benefits include workshops, conferences and other amenities. If you're not interested in becoming a member, but do enjoy family history, check out their news & events and bookstore.
